It's a rough draft, and doesn't say much, but I'm writing, at least!

The Jenkins House
“Kids, it’s almost dinnertime!”
Ben and Kevin Jenkins heard their mother calling, but they didn’t respond. They were too busy with their fun in their backyard. Kevin, the older of the two, had proposed a grand expedition to find the center of the earth, which Ben had accepted willingly. The entire afternoon had been spent creating a huge hole in the backyard in a vain, if not amusing, attempt to reach their unattainable goal. This was also a good way for Ben to use his new play headlamp he had received for his eighth birthday. However, their fun was coming to an end, whether they liked it or not.
“Kids, I’m not going to call again, and your father looks hungry!”
This ultimatum was enough to convince Ben, and he left his shovel where he stood and took of for the house. Kevin, on the other hand, was not so easily deterred. He continued his efforts, unfazed by the promise of sustenance. After several minutes of digging alone, however, even the most dedicated worker loses hope. Dejected that the center of the earth had not been reached, he slammed his shovel down. To his surprise, as the blade entered the ground, a clank was heard, like metal on metal.
Everyone inside heard Kevin’s scream of delight. Ben, being the eager, hyperactive youngster that he was, blasted out of the house, as if his room was on fire. As Kevin told it, he had found the center of the earth, and now all that remained was to dig it up and remove it. At this point, Mr. Jenkins had declared a dinner hiatus until the “center of the earth” was recovered, and had even begun digging with the boys.
